7-Card Stud Poker: Facing-Up to the Basics
Experience is said to be the best teacher. For an aspiring gambler who wishes to master the game of Poker, one can get all the experience that they would need in playing the many existing variations of the poker game. One of these numerous versions being played in casinos and homes everywhere, as well as online, is the stud poker variant known as 7-Card Stud Poker.
A game of 7-card stud poker starts with all the players placing their ante in the middle of the poker table. Usually, the total amount of the ante is dictated by the casino. After the ante has been laid down, the dealer distributes the cards among the players starting with the one on their left. Each player is dealt two face-down cards and one face-up card. The betting, or the "bring in," is initiated by the player with the lowest face-up card, continuing in clockwise rotation until all of the players at the table have placed their bets, whether they have opted to call, raise or fold.
Once the betting has concluded, the players who did not fold and thus remain in the game will each be dealt a fourth card. The next round of betting is then started by the player whose poker hand has the best showing. As before, the clockwise cycle of betting continues among the rest of the players. Afterwards, they are again each dealt with an additional fifth card, this one face-up. Another round of betting follows, after which the dealer gives each player a sixth card dealt face-up.
Yet another sequence of betting commences, and the remaining players who have not folded are each given a seventh card dealt face-down. Every card that has been dealt is referred to as a "street." For instance, the seventh card would be referred to as the seventh street. There is then one last round of betting before the "showdown," where the players reveal their hands to each other. The player who has the best 5-card poker hand wins the game.
